A newly planted garden in Sacramento. My design called for Sage, Rosemary, English Lavender, Iceberg Roses, Pittosporum and Gazanias.

French footed pots were planted with Dwarf Olives, Nemesia, and Bacopa.

A dry stream bed was added to the small planting strip near the street.

The transformation is complete. A new lawn, irrigation, soil contours, and boulders. Beautiful clean simple and easy to maintain.

I love how you limited the plant selection, a much more clean and modern look.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I like how you used cool colors and tossed a bright gazania into the mix. Really pops!

I second what Bill said! I really like the dry riverbed idea. We have places that could use one... Are there layers under the small 3/4" (?) river rock? I've done a few flagstone patios so my mind goes to layers immediately.
ReplyDeleteHi Marsha, I think the key to a natural looking riverbed is to vary the size of stone and use odd numbered groupings. We first dug a curving v shaped trench in the soil. Set our large boulders with one third buried below the surface. Lastly, we arranged the smaller stones. The 3/4 inch rocks are 2 to 3 inches deep.
ReplyDeleteWonderful advice! I don't think I would have had the brain power to figure it out that the big ones go in first, then fill around them. Thanks for sharing that tip… Seriously helpful!!!
ReplyDeleteClearly the 'before' shot screams ... "help!"
ReplyDeleteProject accomplished. Kudos on the completed design.
Wow! What a STUNNING change. Great artistry and work.
